west wind, it is a cooler breeze and temperatures are mainly 60s to very low 70s. it looks good coming to the willow pass grade, westbound 24 looks good between walnut creek and oakland. this is a look at 680 southbound past mission, let's go back to the desk. in overnight news, joint law resulted in multiple arrests and they have exclusive video of this police activity. tara moriarty is at police headquarters with more on what officers found, tara? >> reporter: yes, we are here at oakland police headquarters and overnight along with san leandro police conducted this secret sweep and they have kept with very secretive and we know now they were looking for drugs

and weapons. [ technical difficulties, stand by ] >> we saw several fbi agents in tactical gear. >> reporter: in another spot at 8th street around 8:00, at the acorn public housing complex, authorities swooped in and dozens were involved in this operation as you can see and many people were forced from their homes. one person said fbi drew guns on him and asked him to get out. >> i live in the building and i can't get back in. i guess they are looking for suspects, drugs and weapons. i saw some pictures but i don't know who it was and i guess that is why they asked for my identification. >> reporter: the warrants are results of a criminal

investigation and other arrests were made in antioch. the operation ended at 1:00 a.m. and police did not have to use excessive force. live from oakland, tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 morning news. a man is recovering in oakland after being shot in the leg. police responded to reports of a shooting at 3:00 this morning and they found the injured man on fisher avenue and tall but. it is unclear where the shooting happened and the victim may have been dropped off there. very a very important part of the san francisco site arrived this morning. claudine wong is in san francisco where that piece of equipment called mom chunk. >> apparently they named the

drill. so they named this one but that's only a small part of the drill and they have another name for the other drill. get that truck out of the way now you can see it. both these drills are named after influential women in the city. they first arrived this morning and these will be the front end pieces but keep in mind, this drill which stretches more than 300 feet, where are they headed? they are headed down the street which is to the lunchbox which is about a block from where we are right now. if you look, you can see the work being done over there. crews told me they just finished getting a crane in place overnight and it will allow them to lower the drill pieces into the ground. i want to show you what it looks like below because our ktvu channel 2 morning news got in and this is a steel and send men dirt launch box and it is

boston marathon suspects they just wrapped up a news conference. this is video from southern russia. the father plans on flying here possibly as early as today but it is not clear if the mother will be joining him. she is wanted by authorities on shoplifting charges and could be arrested if she returns to the boston area. she will be conflicting statements. they want to take the body of their son back to russia and want to visit their other son in the hospital. they both believe their sons were framed. the former presidential candidate is among those demanding answers among intelligence agencies. we will bring you that story in a live report from washington d.c. at 6:15. >> there is a bill requiring online retailers to begin

charging sales tax. it will be sent to the states where shoppers live and right now they can only collect sales tax if the stores have a physical presence in the state. berkeley is charging 2007 employees for inadvertently sending social security information along with salaries. they asked for a database of employee salaries but the information they sent out included social security numbers of 11,000 current and former city employees. the database has since been destroyed and the city is offering them free credit reports to make sure their identities are protect. they decided to spend $170,000 to install parking meters. customers want individual

parking meters to take credit in debit cards but right now they have multi- space kiosks. the city council will talk about that next week. right now we will talk about traffic. what is going on for the commute, sal? well, dave, pam, usually we have a lot going on with the commute westbound bay bridge, you can see traffic is getting a little bit busy in some of those cash lanes over to the far left-hand side of the plaza and otherwise we are still looking good, no major problems getting into the city and usually they turn on the metering lights and that will change things. this is northbound and southbound 880 and that traffic is moving along nicely. by the way, interstate 880 is looking good and still clearing a crash and it has been moved to the shoulder. let's go to steve. , well, a good morning and is a very cool morning, on the

backside of mt. diablo. 39 miles per hour out of the west and two days ago it was out of the northeast and temperatures will take a tumble. it was oh who shallow -- oh so shallow and it's up around 3,000 feet flying in the coastal hills and although it is lifting so parts of the south bay will clear. livermore from 76 will drop to 60s and 70s. san jose, is going to be a soft 70. fairfield, a lot of 50s, a couple of 60s but mainly 50s and up in the north bay, westerly breeze, livermore 14 mile-per-hour winds and that's a rather pronounced sea breeze, low clouds and fog at their max and they will get squashed tomorrow.

after eight explosions all together which kept firefighters and the coast guard at a distance. it injured three people. they say it had natural gas on board but it's not clear what triggered the explosion. it does appear to be an accident. the carnival cruise ship and try um had to be -- triumph had to be evacuated and it has been docked there since it became disabled in the gulf of mexico. 14 people were killed in that huge fertilizers plan explosion in texas last week. president barack obama has ordered flags to be flown at half staff at military facilities. the president is also expected to speak. they are looking through the site to determine what caused the explosion. they are still demanding answers about the boston marathon bombings. this morning they are focusing

on counterterrorism. some republican senators believe that attack could have been prevented, kyla? >> reporter: two senators are demanding a hearing to figure out why intelligence agencies may not have is shared all of the information they had on the suspect killed in last week's shootout. at some point they determined he was not a risk and homeland security put him on a specific watch list but that request was ignored. john mccain said the intelligence community did not follow orders mandated by 9/11 commission to share information and keep tabs on somebody with ties to a hostile region of russia. one of the house democrats said otherwise. >> some say the fbi dropped the ball or the agencies were not talking to each other but that does not seem to be the case. >> reporter: 45 minutes from now, they will hold a hearing

on counterterrorism and we will hear the latest washington perspective on the ongoing boston bomb investigation, kyla campbell, ktvu channel 2 morning news. meantime, they are responding to the tragedy in boston. sonoma has temporary removed pressure cookers from store shelves and they made that decision out of respect for the victims of the boston bombing. they say it comes to the privacy of its users and it was part of the company's settlement with the federal trade commission last year the company came under scrutiny after allegations of exposing information of its users

without consent. he is wanted for an attempted home burglary and take a look at this, they say this man tried to break into the house of 700 drive around noontime on tuesday. neighbors describe him as an african-american man between 19 and 25 years old, 6-foot tall, thin build, shoulder length dreadlocks and he had a scar on his left cheek. they also say he was where ago black t-shirt and bluejeans. he ran to awaiting van or suv which was parked in the parking lot. if you have any information about this, call pleasant hill police. they are seeing a rise in burglaries and there have been at least seven robberies in just the past week. restaurant employees carrying cash tips be and patrons walking to and from their

cloudy, san francisco cloudy, patchy low fog with a sea breeze in place anywhere from 50 to 40 miles per hour. this will be the coolest day with 50s, 60s and 70s, and i don't think these temperatures will go do too much -- will do too much. 50s and 60s, low in southern california helped to enhance our fog bank and breezy and windy at times, some of the higher elevations are out to the delta, north bay may take a little bit and we have a pretty big fog bank, lower 70s for many. overall temperatures have really taken a tumble since monday and it does look warmer inland as we head to sunday and monday. the market opens in just about 10 minutes, keep an eye on the stock and they beat wall

street's expectations yesterday. they report first quarter profits of $4 million and lists were expecting a loss but they are expecting a $26 million loss for the current quarter and it looks like it is going to open down about 9% to just 334 a share, 34 -- 334 a share. they are taking full control of wireless and right now they are operating as a joint venture. verizon is about to pay $100 million for voter phones share and owning the largest company in the u.s. would give verizon more flexibility in its operation. a traffic distribute, one that went way too for a, what

welcome back. beverly hills police are looking for and man who tried to run over a bike -- man on a bicycle. he said the driver followed him -- the driver followed him into an alley pinning him to a dumpster. the cyclist was not hurt but the driver could face attempted murder charges. the $100 bill is getting a face-lift and it has a blue three dimensionnal ribbon which moves and the ink well as well as at the number 100 on the bank right-hand corner changes from copper to green depending on the tilt and it will begin circulating in october. sal was hoping for some free samples. >> i'm sure that is not going

. >> they asked for identification of all of the people who lived there. law enforcement says it's a result of a criminal investigation against several arrests made and other arrests were made in antioch. it ended this morning and nobody was injured and police said they did not have to use excessive force and more details about this should be coming out. we continue our coverage of the boston marathon case. investigators say the two bombs used in last week's attacks were triggered by toy cars. this is more sophisticated than believed. they received some bomb making

the eugene house will be down from five-days a week and the historic site in martinez will be closed four days after being open every day. and ridgedale will offer fewer community programs. the investigation continues into a horrifying high speed crash. a mother and her daughter were among those hurt when two speeding cars went out of the control. one of them smashed into a house on lee avenue and janine de la vega joins us now from that crash site. we are a block away from the los gatos border and police are trying to figure out how fast the cars were travel when they crashed and one of them came up into the front yard and you can see the caution tape where it came into the front yard and the house is now all

boarded up. chopper 2 shows the extent of the damage and police say it happened at around 4:00 yesterday afternoon. two cars were traveling southbound on lee and they were speeding and possibly racing when one crashed into a street sign and the other crashed into the home injuring a 40-year-old woman and her nine-year-old daughter inside. emergency crews arrived and they described as one of the teen drivers reacted. >> he said i can't believe i did this, i can't believe i caused this. when i got there he was like on all fours with his head in his hands with blood all over him. >> he is a cousin and a senior at leyland high school and he had two senior girls in his car. nobody is in custody at this point and police are still working on the investigation.

again a mother is in critical condition and the nine-year-old daughter is at the hospital and we are told she will survive. coming up on mornings on 2, we will hear more reaction from witnesses and the question that police are trying to answer in their investigation. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 morning news. sal is back and you are watching the east shore and everything else? >> yes, the east shore is a lot more crowded. this morning we have more traffic coming into berkeley although there was an earlier crash which was cleared to the shoulder but the traffic would be heavy anyway. as i look at the toll plaza, it has not become really bad, it's just west of the mcarthur maze, and you can see all of the lanes, it is about a 15 minute delay as you drive up to the bay bridge.

also this morning, looking at the south bay, all the road sensor are showing moderately heavy traffic on 101 and it looks good going into cupertino so far and there is not a lot on the accident list so far. let's go to steve. the clouds were so shallow it didn't make any impact whatsoever and now it is up around 33,000 feet and it is flying along helped by a system in southern california and the fog bank has gone way up and we have a pronounced west wind up to 40 miles per hour and gusts up to 35 miles per hour out of travis. excuse me 33, i don't want to make those gusts higher than they are. we will have 66 in san jose and a soft 70 for many. generally in the 50s but we

have gusts up to 39 mile-per- hour winds and west winds out to the delta and sacramento will cool down as temperatures slide, we are hot and the fog is cooler south of san francisco, there are some breaks but it will be a gray day and the low up in southern california is bringing rain. we have 28 chilly degrees in tahoe and we have a westerly breeze, you see the low down in southern california and you can see where it moves across the count train there is the fog which is starting tomorrow and high pressure starts to squash tomorrow. breezy and cooler with the sun, temperatures are coming down and own the most inland locations will be in the 60s, low mid-to-upper, santa clara, sunny veil, palo alto parkings

even cooler along the coast. then a little warmup starts on saturday and we will take that into sunday and monday. oakland police calls it the most heartbreaking thing he ever saw. one woman was shot and killed right in front of her three- year-old son. the little boy was in the car when it happened. >> reporter: we are just blocks away from the children's hospital and research center and the only thing left, just a little crime time. the saddest part is that a three-year-old toddler no longer has his mother. the victim was a young woman in her early 20s and police say she was shot near her car. witnesses heard several gunshots and when police arrived, she later died and they found a three-year-old boy found inside the car.

in fact he was seen and they tried to keep his mind off what happened and it's unclear what he saw. we do have information on the suspect but they have yet to release that information. meantime the identity of the woman has not been released. this is the second is time a woman has been shot and killed on the streets of oakland. we will have the condition on the boy as well as the killer or killers in this case. ktvu channel 2 morning news. we are learning about another shooting brian referred to, a 21-year-old woman was killed at first they thought during an attempted robbery but now they are saying it may have been a drug deal. the woman was driving the car with her sister and another woman inside when two men walked up and one opened fire. police say a dispute over

payment for drugs may have been the motive. military officials say the israeli air force has shot down a hezbollah drone near israel. this is not the first time they have sent a drone into israeli air space. hell pat bowlen is known to -- hezbollah is -- hezbollah is known by many.

were made. police in san jose, they say cars were racing and they are to blame a car for mashing right into a house. this is video from news chopper 2/5 people were hurt and so far no arrests have been made. they are demanding a congressional investigation into the boston marathon shooting. they have spent billions of dollars aimed at this kind of incident. neil diamond is reaching out to the victims of the boston bombing. he is donating recent sales to those hurt in the blast. they have sold 19,000 tracks up from 50% from the week before,

sweet carolyn has been played for more than 10 years and has become a source of comfort to many. tonight there will be another funds raiser to help the victims of the boston bombings. they will be held at 5:10 brandt street. and security is being raised after three consecutive bomb threats. two threats were called in yesterday requiring evacuation. police are investigating into whether a student is responsible and if so, punishment could include expulsion and even a felony charge. two sisters are facing felony charges, they were arrested yesterday. they are accused of swaddling babies so tightly that the babies could not move and had trouble breathing.

they did it to force the babies to sleep. social services shut down the preschool after the allegations following other license ising allegations. -- licensing issues. claudine wong is there at the project site where the first of those two giant drilling machines arrived this morning, claudine? >> reporter: that's right. we are talking to the people who built this drill out of ohio and we have more on what you are looking at. take a look at that piece behind this truck you can see that is the first piece that is going to go in and we are told that piece alone is 120 tons. it will go in and be attached to the front part of the drill that will do a lot of the work and we have another 80 tons and

if you keep in mind if will create the central subway. a lot of work needs to be done to put this all together and we spoke to the field services manager and we had him take us through exactly what we are looking at. >> this is the front shield of the machine and the cutting wheel attaches and this is where the drive assembly is and where all of your ground support and chemicals go in. >> reporter: okay now two drills will go down into what is called a steel dirt launch box and it is 500 feet long and it is a starting point for this 1.7 million subway line and it is very complicated and we are talking about 4 to 7 weeks to get this going and we will talk about where it is headed and it is a block away from where we are standing and they put a train in overnight and they
